Signorelli’s Club

1717 North Main Street: Included in Emily Ardoin’s 2014 thesis “Fais do-do to ‘Hippy Ti-Yo’: Dance Halls of South Louisiana”: “Signorelli’s was a hall located on the highway outside town that featured swamp pop music. It was built in 1942, became Signorelli’s in 1964, and the closing date is unknown. It is now mixed use- it is a salon, office and bar, and event hall. The building is of frame construction and has a side gabled roof. The dance floor is constructed of wood strips. The bar is contained in a separate room than the dance floor. The building is in good condition but has been heavily altered. Bar space is front converted to a hair salon. Siding replaced. Dance hall space has been altered to an unknown extent.” Ray Charles? early Swamp pop: Marion Martin: then Slicks Current day photos by John Sharp Photo of sign from Facebook group Lafayette Memories, posted by A.J.
