Jode, do you have any old pics of the stage and backstage you might share with me? In 1981, I was playing guitar with a Columbia act named Claude King. George Jones and Vern Gosdin came that night to do a makeup for a no-show. That was the first time I worked with George, who as my idol. Anyway, I would love to have some pics for my scrapbook. It would mean the world to me. Thank you.

I may have met you. In the ‘80’s my coworkers and I became friends with Alex. He brought George Jones to a crawfish boil at my house in Milton and I believe I may have only one picture of George. Wish I’d have taken more. I have quite a few of us and ole Alex though. Such a good man and such fun. We all loved him so.

I believe my uncle performed there in the 30’s or 40’s. His stage name was Don Collins, and his real name was Donald Goudeau. I was listening to one of his old records tonight and the announcer said he was at Alex Broussard’s Ranch. Do you happen to have any information about his performances?
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity!
Stay tuned…

I saw Willie Nelson perform there in 1974.

I was John Anderson’s drummer from 1980-1985 during the Just a Swingin’ and Old Chunk of Coal days and we played Alex’s ranch at least 4 times in the early 80’s and I have never had as much fun in my life as those gigs. There was an older man who stood off stage and played the spoons to every song we played and you could find great musicians coming in and playing along with us at any time. Rufus Thibodeaux would come in and sit in with us often and the crowds were the best ever. Those folks knew how to party!!! My name is Jim Wolfe

I worked for the sound company that was hired by George Jones in Sept 1983. We did many shows with John Anderson opening. This was one memorable joint. Alex brought in a big pan of Alligator Tail for us to eat as we were setting up the stage. He said he shot it in his yard. Hahah! People danced and had a good time!
