Courtableau Inn was owned by the grandfather of swamp pop singer Rod Bernard. He says in his son, Shane Bernard’s book, “Swamp Pop, Cajun and Creole Rhythm and Blues,” that music was played there regularly by performers including Aldus Roger, Papa Cairo, Jimmy C. Newman, and zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier.
Edmund Stelly: “Courtableu Inn was built on bank of Bayou Teche and the structure extended over the water on stilts. Stories are told that some guys fell over the balcony into Teche after drinking a little too much.”

The club supposedly stood on the spot along Bayou Courtableau now occupied by the Squeaky Clean Car/Boat Wash (110 E. Courtableau Rd., Port Barre, La.).
