Harold’s was a fairly small place. Bar and pool tables on one side, dance floor on the other although you could see from one into the other. In the 80s and 90s they had a regular older crowd who were pretty staid and conservative and they didn’t put up with any nonsense on the bandstand. They liked their musicians to keep it simple: don’t get too animated on stage and don’t play any of that new stuff. They liked the old stuff and would walk right out if they didn’t like the music. I enjoyed playing there regardless because if you knew how to handle the regulars, there would be plenty of them there for the whole gig.
