Old Barn Dance
Status: Closed
Parish: Rapides
Location: Alexandria
Mentioned in “Louisiana Fiddlers” by Ron Yule and Bill Burge :Family atmosphere with no liquor sold. Country fiddler Eddie Raxsdale played the first fiddle tune there to reopen it in 1971 and the last fiddle tune, “Sweet Bunch of Daisies” to close it in 1984. From Louisianafolklife.org: “In 1970 Troy and his wife, Edwina, took over the operation of the Old Barn Dance, which had been established in Alexandria in 1945 and gone through several operators and locations. Now located in a building next to his home, the Old Barn Dance still provides family entertainment every Saturday night with music from Troy’s Country Kings band.”
