Listed in “Readers recall clubs where they danced to Louisiana Music” from The Daily Advertiser, December 29, 1998: “Readers of The Daily Advertiser were asked to submit names of’ the clubs where they danced to Louisiana music in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, with a brief recollection of what the club was like and who played there.” Back from the main part of town- possibly on Cherry Street. It was very popular at one time.

The Wild Cherry Dancehall was located on Wild Cherry Lane off Main Street in Breaux Bridge in the 1940s-1950s. It was run by my Grandfather, “Lulu” Hebert and my Father- Sidney J. Hebert. It had the “longest bar in South Louisiana.” The building burned in the 1970s. For several years a painting of it was on the mural wall in downtown Breaux Bridge on Main Street. It was replaced when the building was repainted several years ago. I have a photo of this mural as well as an old picture of the Wild Cherry.

According to Papa Cairo: “One of the biggest places there was, more people, was in Breaux Bridge, The Wild Cherry. The best club and the biggest club we had back in the ‘30s. People used to come in buses – school buses”. (KC1995)
