  1. This Club was a favorite of ours (Lake Charles) in the late 50’s I believe Cookie and the Cupcakes entertained there during those years.

      • Played horn with the Sensations. We played at the Big Oaks on Friday nights for a while. If I recall correctly, it was down the road from Clint West’s Palomino Club.
I was going to USL at the time so it was about 1967. My friend Ned Theall from Abbeville played horn with the Boogie Kings at the time. Ned’s younger brother Gary and I played horns in the Abbeville High School Band for Anthony Fontana.

      • I met Janis Joplin there. She wasn’t there to perform but to see/hear the Boogie Kings. I was introduced to her by her high school friend I was serving with in the Army at Ft Polk.

      • I am happy to say that I danced many a mile there in the 60’s. We would pile in a ‘57 Chevy and drive over from Beaumont with music blaring. The Boogie Kings, Cookie and the Cupcakes, Johnny and Edgar Winter….Great times! My husband as there also but we did not meet until years later.

  4. Since the drinking age in Texas was 21 there were a bunch of us from Baytown Texas that would drive to either Big Oaks or Louanns to hear the Boobie Kings and drink. Had so much fun.

    • Boogie Kings were the best with GG Shinn, and Jerry Count Jackson and Dwayne Yates. Soulful music.

  6. I dont know how but I wanted a Boogie Kings T-Shirt so I called this phone number and I spoke with Ned Theall. He was one of the Boobie Kings. We talked for an hour. It got to be where we would talk at once a week. We talked about music mostly since he knew I was a horn man. I couldnt believe I actually talked to Ned Theall. He was getting older and he performed some. So in about 1985 The Boobie Kings came to Houston to Rockefellers with all their glitz. Yates, GG Shinn, Jerry LaCroix they wer all there. They packed the place.

  9. I got to personally know Ned Theall and after many years he would call me at home in Waco Texas just to talk. He was a wonderful person and I will forever remember him.

  10. Same. We were teens, but Loisiana had a _drinking height._ If you could reach the bar with the money, you could drink.
