Bruce Daigrepont: “On Saturday mornings, you’d go to Fred’s in Mamou from 8-1, then Buzzy’s across the street from 1 to 4. Then you’d head out to Clinto’s from 4- to whenever. This guy Clinto loved Cajun music so much that he built an extra room on the back of his house to be a dancehall. He’d play music and his daughter would sing. You had to park in the pasture- they made gumbo in his kitchen to sell. I think that he and his daughter put out a single. The music would be broadcast live on the radio- I don’t remember what station- maybe KVPI?”

Ray Abshire: “Located on 90.”

  1. Clento and Beverly Gotro were my maternal grandparents. My mother is also deceased now and I found out the name of my paw paw’s bar through google maps. i found their old house and property and miraculously recognized it. Then searched his name and address and again recognized the bar’s name. anyway…. I don’t have much family remaining . 1 living aunt and uncle is all I know of and I haven’t seen or spoken to either since my mother died. I would love to know more about my family and my grandparents bar 🙂

  2. Hi Hannah,
Years ago I visited with Clinto and he showed me all around the dance hall, and his amplifiers and sound equipment. Also went to a dance at the Fais Do Do when a very young Jason Frey (maybe 15 yrs old) was playing accordion in the band. I visited with Clinto and Beverly and had lunch with them (Gumbo and Whisky). I have a photo of Clinto from that time. If you send your eMail address, I’ll forward ti to you.

    Regards,
