From information at the Kaplan Museum:

“Ned Doucet Dance Hall: Located on the corner of 4th Street. Mr. Doucet had a storage and warehouse on that corner, but on Saturday nights it was used asa dance hall. A big room with beds was available so that mothers could put their babies and small children to sleep while they were dancing. So originated the term “fais-do-do.”
